Hi there,
yes, this question is a bit off topic but perhaps there is someone around
who can give me some advice how to install MySql on a Mac OS X machine. I
don't get it running on my own and the docs are no real help.

The problem I seem to run into again and again is that as soon as I try to
use a command in the shell which is printed in the docs to e.g. install the
database, I get a command not found error.

Do I need to install the pthread with the 3.23.33 version of mysql? The docs
say I have to but I need not in two sentences. Is there any patches I have
to install? Has anyone experience with this?

Any suggestions are welcome as I'm completely stuck and need to get that
database running very desperately.

sincerely

Ute

My advice:

Go to www.frontbase.com and download and install that instead.

Why bother with MySQL when there are real databases available? (See
<http://openacs.org/philosophy/why-not-mysql.html> for more about
MySQL versus real databases.)

Check out Frontbase <http://www.frontbase.com/>.

Why bother with MySQL and all that command line and configure stuff. Use
something simple and powerful.

Check out http://www.openbase.com

It is super easy to use. We've used it for many years on on OSX and Solaris
with remarkable results and there is a free license.
